Comb through rosters looking for ex blue jays then...because you know that's what it is.

I am a minority Snitker supporter as most of you know- so I hate to give you guys any extra free ammo (as if you need it) - but I did hear him a coupla’ weeks ago say something like, “I’d like to try him at starter and see what’s he’s got,” or something to that effect…

A good start would probably be to look at the Tigers, Angels, White Sox, and A's rosters.

Aren't we also owed like four players to be named later through various deals?

I suspect whichever nerd came up with the idea of turning Lopez into a SP also pitched converting Kerr, and since Lopez worked out so well they just went with it and gave Kerr a shot.
Well said. There appears to be an extremely wide gulf between the analytics team and dugout team with both sides having a lot of difficulty bridging that gap. Snitker is clearly a throwback to an earlier era and his primary job is making sure his handwriting is legible when he's filling out the line-up card (ala Sparky Anderson sans the grating personality). On the other hand the analytics team looks at underlying measurements and think they will translate, if not seamlessly, without that much of an issue. Like just about all aspects of life these days, working toward some sensible middle ground seems to be needed.

And I don't know if the analytics team should be patting themselves aggressively on the back regarding Lopez. He had 97 starts before this season and he's not the first guy in the history of the game to have to spend a couple of years in the bullpen to get back on track. He looks to be a very solid signing and I didn't think the plan to put him the rotation to be that innovative.

Well, nobody else talked about putting Lopez in a rotation, and he appeared to be the primary plan to fill a hole in the Braves rotation, so I think someone deserves some credit for that tremendous efficient use of that salary. That credit probably should go to the analytics guys.

And agree with the rest, someone has to be the translator between the nerds and the jocks. That person is typically the manager, and on the Braves I thought it was supposed to be Weiss (what a joke). I think improving that spot in the dugout could go a long way towards fixing most of the tactical issues Snit consistently encounters (and almost certainly doesn't even know he made a tactical mistake). The simple fact may be he just doesn't know how to apply the data the nerds give him, and the nerds don't know how to make it usable by Snit.

If your job is to "calculate the expected wOBA for Olson vs this LHP", you are probably going to provide a list of numbers and consider your job done. You'd have no reason to think about how to show a manager that it proves Olson should be protected from LHP a bit...you just spit out the numbers because you don't know anything about baseball other than it involves a white bat and a wooden bat, and it would hurt to be hit by either. And Olson is this 6'6 monster who you just tried not to be crunched by the only time you walked past him...and he thought you were a fan on a stadium tour.

Much better job of lineup today...
    Albies
    Riley
    Ozuna
    Olson
    Duvall
    Arcia
    Harris
    Murphy
    Kelenic

If you bring in a lhp for Harris, he has to face Murphy. If you bring in a lhp for kelenic, he has to face albies. If you bring in a lhp for Olson, he has to face Duvall.

Except that Arcia and Muphy need to be switched.

That's true. Snit still thinks Arcia is good from his 1sr half last year while he uses recency to judge Murphy. Makes no sense, but snit, so...

    nope it needs to be

    Ozzie ick but who else
    Olson
    Riley
    Ozuna
    Harris
    Murphy
    Duvall
    Kelenic
    Arcia

you could flip Kelenic and Arcia so that if a LHP is brought in for Kelenic then RH Ozzie is waiting.

Olson in the 2-hole would be great, but it won't happen. Last year, Olson struggled in the 2-hole and then snit "fixed" him by moving him to cleanup. Much like Acuna will never hit anywhere but leadoff here

I'm just thankful Harris isn't leading off. He trudges to first base. Has he ever beaten anything out. He was much better last year batting 8th.

Harris isn’t leading off because a LHP is on the mound, not because he “trudges to first and doesn’t beat out grounders”.

This is more or less the correct lineup vs LHP.

I understand that. :-) but I don't like Harris batting lead off. His mindset isn't right for that position in the lineup.
