but on average the highly educated make a lot more dough than those less educated and our fiscal system effects large transfers from the former to the latter every year...no flowers or thank you notes expected...the more fortunate should be doing this for their less fortunate brothers and sisters (although i understand that in some cases it causes wounded pride)

The end product boosts incomes of its recipients by a substantial amount. On average. There is a range obviously, but on average the effect is large.

It more than pays off the debt of those that don't do well. There is left over funds to finance the large transfers that occur every year from highly educated high income people to the lesser educated lower income people. I realize this is a painful reality for some. But educated people do a lot of favors for the less educated. No flowers or thank you notes expected.
