    Fire AA

A bit of a click bait title, but this is
a serious discussion. Dude had a nice run when he had the previous regime’s core to lean on, but now they’ve fallen off and he has failed to supplement them with future assets to keep the wheels turning. Not only that, but he proceeded to sign two lumbering, swing and miss dudes well into their 30’s along with a catcher who is already in his 30’s, despite literally everyone being aware of the risks of doing so. The farm is completely barren aside from pitching, all of it raw, with realistic ceilings of 3 or 4 starters given repertoire. There are zero position players to speak of. This is unacceptable, I don’t care where he’s drafting at.

That’s not even to mention not just giving Freeman an extra year and instead opting to trade a bunch of valuable assets for a lesser 1B. A move which is now proving disastrous due to his seemingly inability to draft. And don’t even get me started on giving up a young, cost controllable AS catcher for a catcher who was already about to turn 30, which was rightfully critiqued at the time it happened.

All that to say, I wouldn’t fire him this year. That would obviously be a knee-jerk reaction. I would give him this year and next year to see if these next two drafts bear fruit and shore up the future of this organization. Because right now that future looks incredibly bleak, and he’s got himself to blame for it.

AA is looking like another in a long line of professional sports executives who have a great run of success and then fall off. That’s why, as much as I think JS screwed up himself, he’s in the hall of fame. Even when he was making questionable decisions, he kept the farm loaded to keep the MLB team relevant. AA needs to prove this is just an aberration.

    That’s all I’ve got.

He built his reputation off signing great deals for players he didn't sign to start with. His pitcher development strategy of not even letting guys get upper milb innings is so f'n dumb, he should be fired just for that

Runs end when you can't develop players from within to replace your good aging players. AA hasn't shown the ability to draft.

The fact we have to let Duvall face rhp bc there's literally no one that can help us is an indictment of AA

Man how quick the pitch forks come out. What he did at the 21 deadline and signing these guys to team friendly deals just fall on deaf ears i guess. Guess what? Most draft picks dont work out. Yes there needs to be a change in draft philosophy where we concentrate on hitters but thats why AA has been signing the better hitting international guys. We’ll see how they pan out bc they are still really young but he put good guys on the team and they just arent performing right now and he can’t control how Riley and Olson are slumping. Freeman not coming back is on Freeman and his agent, thats why FF cried the whole first visit back. Sale and Lopez have been amazing pickups but i guess its alot more fun to throw stones.

To be clear, OP wonders if Atlanta should fire the GM who has never missed the playoffs.

In fact, who at this point has never lost the division.

When I suggest to fire him will be after he has, in fact, lost the division and possibly missed the playoffs.

Let's not even forget the first few years he was restricted with drafting and international draft. Lol.

    How were we restricted drafting?

Also, people seem to be ignoring this fact, AA is Canadian. He likes to rep Atlanta in public, like he’s a local boy. Can someone if his ilk truly understand the south and what the expectations are?

We were punished by the league after Coppy's misdoings.

Yeah we didn't have full ability to spend in Latin AMerica until 2021. Ignoring all the other prospects we lost.

None of this explains why more than two-thirds of the hitters on this team do not have basic pitch recognition.

Our available pool money was cut the first few years of AA's domestic drafts if I remember correctly also as punishment for the Coppy/Hart stuff.

Or was it just international spending money?

I remember AA going in-depth about how the international sanctions on us had to make him and his staff re-evaluate how they did their domestic first year player drafts the first few years he came here.

Moreover, AA is of Greek descent. Look at what’s going on over in their country right now.

Lucky for AA he had a treasure trove of players/prospects handed to him. Despite that he’s still a good GM. Just would never have won a World Series.
