Pope Francis On Charlie Hebdo: 'You Cannot Insult The Faith Of Others'

This is exactly my point when I keep saying over and over that religion itself is the real threat. Why do you keep ignoring that and acting like no one is addressing it? And why do you insist on trying to equate the two sides and act like that is reason to not go to war? There is no right or wrong side. There never is. That's not how war works. It's not civil. It's not pretty. And no one comes out innocent.

Fair enough...I do not identify myself as a Republican if you wanted to know (which I'm sure you don't).

You see, what I think we need to identify and purge is crazy and destructive, whether it be from the right, the left, Christians, Muslims, Atheists, or any other group, men, women, gay, straight, and so on. The problem we face is that most Americans are perfectly fine with me criticizing some other group, as long as I'm OK with anything they or their group is doing, sort of like Isaac Hayes with the South Park guys on the Scientology issue.

And the very idea of this bull**** respect for religion.

My opposition to this is not 100% in line with yours. I do believe there are other religions which pursue a peaceful existence. Islam is not one of them. However, my opposition would be towards any religion if they proceeded to start massacring people by the thousands in the name of their God.

Respect must be earned IMO. Now Dalyn you know I think you're a good guy and I'm pretty sure you've read me criticizing pretty much anyone or every one if I think (in MY infinite wisdom) that they deserve it. You know I've criticized self righteous so called Christians when I think they're full of it, but to play devil's advocate (sorry, couldn't resist) here, for Atheists, Muslims, Hindus, or any other group every person or group falls short sometimes. Christians may miss the mark more often than any of us would like to admit, but Christians also collectively do good things they don't get credit for, like the free hospitals for sick kids. I don't think I've ever seen an Islamic Cancer Treatment Center, a Hindu Cancer Treatment Center, or to be totally fair an Atheist Cancer Treatment Center, though I believe if you had your way there would be one of those. It's easy, and necessary IMO to cherry pick when any group when they do or say something obviously wrong, Lord knows I can't seem to resist, but I think all of us, myself at the top of the list, should probably try to be better on the other side of this coin.

Sorry, no offense intended, just an observation.

Yeah, this is why I hesitate to make this a war on religion as a whole. There is a specific religion out in the world right now that is causing a present and immediate threat to the free world.

But it really isn't a religion, isn't it more a perverted religious sub-group, for lack of a more accurate term? Have you ever read The Black Banners, by Ali Souffan? He is/was a Lebanese born FBI agent who put together the first profile on Al-Qaeda and bin Laden. He found out most of the stuff we knew about those aholes for like the first 7 or 8 years after 9/11. Very interesting read if you get a a chance.

Non sense.
&
I used to think I was a utopian

So the fact that this doesn't exist currently means we should not strive to achieve it. There is no way we should be living in a world where we fear for our lives because of statements we make. That is not a world anyone should have to live in. Your constant defense of these animals is disgusting.

I don't view this as a war. Never did. I still don't get
why we invaded afghanistan let alone iraq.
Or, took Kuwiat's side in 1990.
Or supported the Shah in 1979
or overthrew the Iranian (whatever) in 1954
etc
etc
etc
etc
I still don't view this as a war. I saw 9/11 as criminal hijacking and murder.
And let me ask, who are we at war with. A ghost ?
Keyser Sozy ???

Maybe we should all roast marshmellows and sing Kum -By-Ya and get to say whatever we want and everyone is happy.
Good lord.

Understanding there is more to the picture than meets the eye is not the same as defending .
It is impossible to come to any kind of solution as long as people insist on irrationally approaching an issue.

Why did we invade Afghanistan after 9/11 ?
Totally a knee jerk reaction. They are the bad guys we are the good.

Oh, but they kill people -- excuse me -

It really scares me that there are so many people out there that believe we are being attacked solely because of our actions. This is not a 20 year struggle. Not a 40 year. Not even a 100 year struggle. This cancerous belief system has infected the world for far too long and it has to be stopped.

At least you're not scared

Totally a knee jerk reaction. Intellectually you are making the same leap

There was a perfectly good reason why the US went into Afghanistan. As Dalyn has articulated. This has been brewing for hundreds of years and the enemy has been gradually amassing strength. Action had to be taken.

At least you're not scared

This is a completely different "scared" than what you were talking about. You are totally clueless on this issue and still have these foolish views from your Ron Paul worship days. The enemy is out there and they are stronger and better organized then you want to admit.

I do believe that Liberalism has negatively impacted our country. We should have went in harder and faster into the Muslim world and really gotten the job done. But then you have people cyring and moaning about upsetting people that are trying ot kill us. Its absolute nonsense. Sometimes things have to get done regardless of how hard and how unfortunate they might be.

I'm crying and moaning about the hundreds of thousands of innocent people we've killed over the last decade

It's a shame that we had to do that. Doesn't changet the fact that there is an enemy out there that needs to be eliminated.

Also, if these people would stand up more often against these animals the free world wouldn't have this massive burden.

Like I said several pages ago, you want a never-ending war that kills millions in order to save hundreds

I'm still curious, if Russia invaded and bombed our country, do you guys think we would have a problem with that?

What if they said they were doing it in order to stop a few bad guys?

A few as you put it is a gross understatement of the size of the enemy.

Also if we sat idly by while a group of our population was performing atrocitis around the world then we would deserve evwry bit of reprisal.
