Braves sign Jonny Gomes

Platoon could end up being productive.

All of a sudden the offense is slightly better and might match last years
disgrace.

With the pickings being what they are, the KJ and Gomes signings make good sense. No need to trade away some of the what you got recently for a mediocre option at best. If these guys make the cut out of ST, fine. If not go with Terdo and Cunningham.

Gomes and Almonte/Toscano platoon could be solid. I still think the best case scenario is for Jace Peterson to have a big ST and get the leadoff spot. It might be ugly on paper but this lineup can't be worse then last year.

Simmons SS
Freeman 1B

Happy with this signing. I could get behind Kelly and Gomes. They'd be a good platoon or options with injuries.

Good lineup? Eh. Does it make me feel a little bit better? Yes.

From MLBTR.

The right-handed hitting Gomes has an outstanding .861 OPS over 1494 career plate appearances against left-handed pitching, including a .276/.373/.371 slash line in 204 PA against southpaws in 2014. Gomes hit .234/.327/.330 overall last season over 321 with the Red Sox and A’s, going to Oakland along with Jon Lester in the trade deadline blockbuster that also saw Yoenis Cespedes go to Boston.

Before everyone gets excited and starts talking about how much this improves our lineup, take a look at his numbers from last year. .234 .327 .330 .657

It's a good signing if he only plays vs lefties. He should not take any at-bats against a RHP from young players looking to prove they can contribute in 2017.

Not against this signing, but wow this offense is going to be bad. And this year we won't be able to hold onto the thought that it SHOULD be better.

Beats watching last years team.

At least there arent high expectations so if/when they suck, people wont complain a ton, hopefully.

Looking forward to a lot of this from Gomes in 2015.
