What we learned about the Post Season Roster from the Mets Series

CJC

Mashin' to Mississippi
We got a chance to see Snit handle this team late in the year in 3 close games in a playoff type scenario. We got a good look at what to expect for the Playoff roster. My prediction:

Regular Lineups:

1. Acuna - RF
2. Swanson - SS
3. Harris - CF
4. Riley - 3B
5. Olson - 1B
6. d'Arnaud - C
7. Contreras/Ozuna - DH
8. Rosario/Grossman - LF
9. Arcia - 2B

(Comments - I think we caught some lightning with Arcia late in the year, but Grissom is a much better hitter. I'd play him. Obviously if Albies can play, he moves both those guys to the bench. LF is a hole that we didn't address very well, hopefully one of those guys gets hot. This is a deep lineup if we don't mess around with Ozuna)

Bench:
DH Backup
LF Backup
Heredia
Grissom

Rotation:

1. Fried
2. Wright
3. Strider (Hopefully!)
4. Morton

(Comments - MUST have Strider back, or we have an issue here. Morton is struggling, we can't throw Odorizzi in the mix too.)

Bullpen:

9th - Jansen
LHSetup - Minter
RHSetup - Iglesias

High Lev Mid Relief - Lee, McHugh, Chavez
Low Lev - Stephens, Matzek
Long Relief - Elder

(Comments - Matzek didn't even warm in the Mets series, he's the least trusted it looks like. Lee is the most trusted guy outside of the 3 main guys. If we lean on 4 main guys like last season it will be him. But I think this year we are a little deeper. I think we have 6 trusted guys.)

--------

Left off: Odorizzi, Adrianza, Bracho, Albies

(Comments - Obviously Odorizzi is a candidate for the LR slot, but I think Elder has proven to be the more reliable starter when used. If this is an AA decision this will be Elder. This is a small chance that Adrianza gets the nod over Grissom, but I really doubt it... Grissom hits SO much better. There is a tough numbers game to play if Albies is back)

If Albies is back, that makes the position player depth very very difficult to figure out. You'd have Ozuna, Contreras, Albies, Grissom, Rosario, Grossman, Arcia, Heredia for 5 spots.

Honestly, I don't know about starting Albies. With the amount of time he has missed, you almost want to go with the hot hand. And I love Albies to death.

Is yates a likely return?

I don't think there is any chance we use Yates this year.

All of our Bullpen guy have been highly effective. Tyler Matzek has a 3.32 ERA and 4.37 FIP, but has consistently out performed his FIP aside from the Covid year.

IF THAT is our worse guy there is no spot for Yates.

Albies is so much better Defensively than Arcia and Grissom that I think you have to.

But Grissom's bat needs to be in the lineup. It's a shame we haven't figured out if he can play LF yet.

Agreed regarding Grissoms bat and Albies defense must be noted.....I wish there was a way to have a third catcher so we could have Contreras and d'Arnaud in the line up every night.

Acuna RF
Swanson SS
Riley 3B
Olson 1B
d'Arnaud C
Contreras DH
Harris CF
Rosario/Grossman LF
Arcia 2B

That is a lineup wet dreams are made from

I expect Albies to be back for the NLDS and I think Tromp shouldn't be discounted as an option either.

The following roster strikes me as the ideal makeup for the NLDS

Acuna
Swanson
Harris II
Riley
Olson
d'Arnaud
Contreras
Ozuna
Albies

Arcia
Heredia
Tromp
Rosario

Fried
Strider
Wright
Morton

Jansen
Iglesias
Minter
McHugh
Lee
Chavez
Elder
Stevens
Matzek

On the Braves injury notes, they said Tromp had reinjured the quad and sounds like he's still not back

Has there been any recent update on that or is that still from the beginning of September? My feeling has been the Braves have been keeping players like Tromp and O'Day on ice until the playoffs due to the roster crunch.

Just hoping Acuna can somehow find himself in playoffs. Such a game changer when going right. Unfortunately just feels like fundamentally a different player at least for rest of this year.

An Acuna on fire would be such a game changer

He seems to be at his best when he gets some rest. So hopefully this break will help get him ready. I'm worried the colder weather will play a factory in making that knee more uncomfortable
