2016 DRAFT Signing Tracker ... FINAL, JULY 15

and yet they still make dumb decisions sometimes. Just like the rest of us. I just don't buy the idea that because someone is in a baseball front office they automatically know more than any of us do about baseball.

That's fine - you're a *ucking genius. Can we all kiss your *ss???

Uh, I pretty much do buy that they automatically know more than any of us do about most prospects, players, and the current market. It's been said in the thread already, but these guys spend all day every day thinking about baseball. They may not be as naturally bright as others, but I don't know why anyone would assume they know more than a FO.

The D-Backs' front office may not be very smart regarding the importance of value, but I still assume they could tell me more about just about any player in pro baseball than I already know.

you certainly can with that sort of attitude, IDK why you peasant class hicks feel the need to make this about me, when I clearly stated "any of us" but if you would like to kiss my ass, pucker up boy

I've liked what the front office has done for the most part, but for how much experience we have with Hart, JS, Roy Clark, etc. it's pretty embarrassing to keep making mistakes like this one and the Bonafacio blunder last month.

Its easy to criticize when you aren't doing the job yourself. If you wanna go on the record and give me some bold future predictions about prospects or breakout/regressing players I would be more than happy to grill you in the future for everyone that's incorrect.

Auburn beat reporter tweeting that Antbony confirmed offer was pulled because it would have put the Braves over the cap. Shameful

Go get 'em Trump - do you honestly think people are buying into how "smart" you are when this is your stance???

"Smart" people, that is?

This is an absolute damn disgrace. The Braves if they were as classy as they think they are, would honor the deal and pay the penalty.

Here is article from Columbus (Ga.) paper:

Josh Anthony won’t be signing with the Atlanta Braves, after all.

The Braves called the former Hardaway High star Friday morning to rescind the offer they made — and that Anthony had accepted — on Thursday. Now, Anthony will enroll at Auburn and will begin playing on the Tigers’ baseball team in the fall.

“That is a perfect way to describe it,” Anthony said when asked if he felt like he had been on a roller-coaster the past few days.

Anthony was drafted on June 11 out of Western Oklahoma State in the 16th round of the Major League Baseball draft. Anthony was taken with the 469th overall pick. He announced Wednesday that he had turned down the Braves and would play at Auburn. But then the Braves called on Thursday and sweetened their offer to include a $250,000 bonus and money for Anthony’s educational expenses. Anthony accepted the offer, and he was told he would start with the Braves’ Advance Rookie team in Danville, Va.

But then the Braves’ scouting director, Brian Bridges, called Anthony’s father, Eric, at 10:30 Friday morning to tell him they would not be able to honor the deal. Eric Anthony said he told Bridges he needed to call Josh and Josh’s mom and tell them the news.

“I am not upset. I am not angry,” Anthony said. “It was a win-win situation for me no matter what happened, if I went to Auburn or signed with the Braves. “I look at it as being God’s way of telling me what route I should be taking.”

Anthony said if the Braves draft him again in the future, he would be OK with that.

“I will be OK with any team drafting me,” he said. “That will be an opportunity.”

Eric Anthony said the Braves told him that the increase in Josh’s offer came about when the Braves wanted to pull an offer to another player. Anthony said that Major League Baseball told the Braves they had to honor that contract. An email request for a comment from the Braves was not answered Friday night.

Anthony spent the past two seasons at Western Oklahoma State, where he earned National Junior College Athletic Association Division II All-America honors.

Anthony batted .444 with 25 homers and 84 RBIs in 65 games. He stole 49 bases and scored 112 runs. In 2015, he batted .425 with 20 homers and 71 RBIs. He helped lead Western Oklahoma to the NJCAA World Series.

Absolute freaking amateur hour. I am as of now giving up control of this thread. Any further updates can come from you guys.

Well, I'm a little less angry with it since the confusion came from the Braves wanting to pull an offer back from another kid rather than simply making a calculation error. These type of things happen when you are as aggressive as the Braves are. What it sounds like happened was the Braves didn't think they had a chance on Anthony, so they pursued someone else. Once Anthony became a possibility again, the Braves thought they could pull an offer from another kid and give it to a player they obviously like more in Anthony.

Obviously, it's embarrassing and cold, but I would rather my front office make mistakes living on the edge than to avoid it altogether

Wow. Ok, first, Anthony is being very classy with his reaction. Not sure I'd react similarly with that much money yanked away from me. Second, wonder who the other player is that they were going to screw over. Third, wonder if that player knows that the Braves were going to screw him over. Wouldn't make me a very happy employee knowing that my employer was only forced to keep me around. Shame such a positive draft is going to end up leaving a slight bitter aftertaste.

This is another situation where the FO acted without knowing the rules, though this one is a lot more embarrassing than the Bonifacio roster move thing. Anthony and his family seem like great folks to handle it all so well with the media.

I wonder which offer the Braved wanted to pull? Seems like the only possibilities are (11) Matt Rowland - $400,000 (15) Zach Becherer - $175,000 (19) Tucker Davidson - $125,000.

I doubt it was Rowland and I am not sure getting back only $25,000 from pulling Tucker Davidson's offer would have freed up enough money so my guess would be Becherer's offer.

Why are we so upset about this? Kid doesn't really seem to care that much and he's a 16th round pick. I understand it doesn't look good for the front office, but it wasn't anything purposely malicious. I'm legitimately curious. Is this kid supposed to be incredible or something?
